Karen Coker

Scientific Writer/Editor, Statistician, Research Protocol Planner/Advisor

Little Rock Metropolitan Area (Arkansas), USA

Karen Coker currently writes and edits scientific reports while also providing technical support for automated editing and formatting (via macros). Her past experience includes statistical analysis and developing research protocols that meet methodological standards and U.S. federal regulations on research participant safety and ethics. She holds graduate degrees in public administration with an emphasis in science and technology policy (Syracuse University) and an undergraduate degree in physics (Hendrix College).

A native Arkansan, Karen spent most of her childhood in Pine Bluff, a small town in the Delta lowlands. As a child, she had no idea of her home town’s special history as a refugee site during the Civil War and subsequent home of many Blues, Boogie Woogie, and Soul musicians; learning this history is now a favorite avocational interest. She has always known, though, that Pine Bluff provided a solid public school system that fostered her love of music and laid the foundation for her analytical and writing intensive career.
Since her days in Pine Bluff, Karen has lived in central Arkansas, central New York, and eastern North Dakota. All her experiences in these areas added to her writing and analytical skills. Now she is at the point of continuing to use and home these skills, adapting to new applications and media as needed.
She also is pursuing new interests such as learning her home town’s history and rich heritage in arts, including music. Indeed, she has started a website called PB Junction, at pbjunction.com, that covers arts, culture, and nature in Pine Bluff. In the Social Media list below, the second Twitter account is that of PB Junction.
