A Thantophobic's Nightmare

The idea of death is an extremely deep and touching topic, and prior to this pervasive virus, death felt as though it wasn't relevant to me. I never had to cope with the passing of loved ones or even have to bid adieu to a pet. I have recollections of attending a funeral for my best friend's grandfather. I sat in the back of the church with my mother and listened to the echoing cries that surrounded me. I always thought to myself that I must be one of the luckiest people in the world to not have the experience of suffering through this massacre, but I wish I could have comprehended that the loss of life is inevitable, you can't avoid expiration. And when that day comes you too will feel those grim and unwanted feelings. Which brings me to where I am now, standing above the graves of my great grandmother and grandfather. I pat down the fresh bouquet of flowers with an aroma that reminds me of what once was their home. Memories of their warm embraces and old stories played through my head as though it was a cinema. Family gatherings felt worlds smaller without them there. They always brought everyone together, they had the purest souls and never discriminated. Now my life just felt shattered, though nothing had drastically changed. They were the staple to our family. Without them we are just a loose stack of paper. All of that said, somehow it brought us closer at the same time. Because we all have that one thing in common: We value the two remarkable souls that have passed. A majority of people believe that death isn't something people should talk about, but in my eyes, I believe that we should. It is inescapable and learning more about it now and letting our feelings out can make the whole thing less confusing and easier to deal with. Lastly, I would like to say, there have been rough times for everyone at some point. Whether it's losing a loved one, coping with anxiety, regret, and fear. Although these feelings make you feel like an empty void, just know others will be there to help guide you in order to fill it. So don't feel like you are alone. After all, we are all in this together.
