John Hansen is a Father, a Husband, a Christian, and a Martial Artist. He is working towards becoming a high school teacher and hopes to spread his love for reading and writing. He found his love for storytelling while very young within the myths and lore of his ancestors and in the history books that filled his libraries, those ancestral stories of gods and heroes. He firmly believes that learning from the past is the only way to move forward. With a mix of fantasy and history, John Hansen writes stories about the bestial nature in all of us.

For the greater Good

“Could you just put it on?” Lira threw the little black piece of fabric at her husband. The mask flew across the room over several chairs, a fan, a pile of books, and a desk landing unceremoniously onto a pink suitcase with white strips and stickers of Brazil's flag scattered across it. It was the same one that she had used as a chest of drawers when she lived alone on a mattress without a bed frame. Mark stepped to the side disgusted by the little mask. He picked it up and threw it back at her; it fell on the pair of ripped plane tickets to Seattle. Lira rolled her eyes walking over to the mask and picking it up offering it to him. “I don't like canceling it any more than you do but we gotta do it to keep the country safe.” Mark threw his callused hands into the air knocking the mask from her hands. “Please, this whole thing is just a plot by the democrats to win the election.” He pivoted away from her kicking an empty suitcase. “Just think about it for one tiny second and you will see that this is all just overblown.” “Not this again. I don't have the energy to deal with your conspiracies.” Lira held her palms up against an invisible wall. “We agreed to just not talk about those things. I have enough problems as it is without your doom and gloom message or world domination by reptiles.” She threw her arms down and walked towards the closet door. “I'm just asking that you do this for me so I can see my parents.” He rolled his eyes and followed her a laugh traveling from his stomach to his throat. “That's not just what you're asking me to do. You're asking me to throw away my free will my choice to do with my body as I please. My body my choice or doesn't that apply anymore?” Lira pivoted snapping her hair flinging across her face and hitting herself in the eye. She stared at him with her pointer finger armed and ready. “Don't say a word.” She strode past him and sat across from him on his mahogany-colored work desk her hands picking at the hearts carved into it after long nights of homework. “Can you please just do this for me you've done a lot harder things for me?” He lowered his eyes looking at the brown floorboards covering his face with his right hand. “None of those things ever required me to go against my beliefs. It's more than just a mask, it's my pride. You know that no one around here believes in any of this scientism, I can't be the only one that looks like a fool.” He stalked away from her towards the window. “The world is changing, and we are just letting it change without questioning it at all.” She followed him wrapping her fingers in his. “Look I get what you are saying, but I need to get out of this house. I've been stuck in this house for months and I need out!” She rubbed the back of his hand. “I want to walk through the mall, go out to eat, and see my friends. We need to get out of this house.” Her eyes watered as she remembered the many days that she would look outside of their apartment to see a beautiful day but couldn't even go for a walk. She pulled him towards the hoping that she could tug on his heart. “Please for my sanity.” She could see his mind rolling, his heart, and his pride sparring for dominance. “Fine, I'll put the thing on, but this doesn't mean a thing.” He held her hand to the door to the shoe shelf. “Where are we going anyway?” Lira's face lit up like a Christmas tree lights. “Just somewhere where we all can eat and enjoy each other's company…how about Taco Villa I would love to get some Mexican food and support the local businesses. They have outdoor dining, so we can actually sit down and enjoy our food.” Memories of ordering a beer with the number four: floutas, rice, refried beans, and a drink. “How nice does that sound?” He shrugged picking up his black and white tennis shoes slipping them on. “I have to admit that it does sound kinda nice. Sure, we can go there's I'd love a Mexican flag burrito.” He opened the door for her and stepped through after her. “I will enjoy seeing Fernand again, he's one of the best servers I've ever met, always makes me feel wanted.” Lira slipped on a pair of cute pink and white sneakers. “He's so nice and polite.” She locked the front door and gestured him to follow her to the fiat parked on the sidewalk. He took a deep breath in through the nose and out of the mouth. "Come on my parents are waiting for us."
