Books are a source of knowledge. They teach you a lot of things. They make you aware of the things that you have never imagined. Books don't give us only material and worldly knowledge. Books help us in our spiritual grooming. Books are like oceans, oceans of knowledge and wisdom, where you can find the rarest and the most beautiful pearls. No matter how many books you have read, there is always capacity for more. Books make us aware of new perspectives. It is due to books that we come to know how others think, how they see and face problems. It is due to books that we become able to see problems from new angles. It is due to books that our horizons of thinking are widened. You know what the best thing about books is? They make us familiar with ourselves. They help us analyze ourselves in a better way. They tell us that there is also a world inside us. A teacher quoted a very beautiful statement. He said,” The age of a reader is always increasing. It may go beyond centuries.” Students were perplexed by this strange statement. They thought how is it possible for someone to go beyond centuries in this era? The teacher answered himself, “You are now living in 21st century. If I give a book about the civilization of 100 years back and you read it thoroughly. You know after reading that book your age would be increased for 40-50 years. Because you have more information than your fellows. You are acquainted with the situations of that era. Moreover, you are familiar with the cultures, traditions, and circumstances of that period. You know more than them, therefore your age has increased.” Books make our perceptiveness aloft. Books enhance our maturity level. It is due to books that our thinking, our choices and our preferences are altered. You would hardly find a reader having a wanderer friend. Books tell us what is right and wrong. They tell us what is in our benefit. Someone asked a teacher that why most of the readers are usually alone? They become away from their friends, their community. Teacher answered with an amazing smile. He said, “Readers don't become alone. They become partners of their own thoughts. By reading books, they become more mature and hence avoid useless discussions. Their level has been promoted.” The quality of writings and writers also matters a lot. Someone has said very beautifully, “Writing invites the readers, Writer arrests the readers.” Books always attract new readers, but it is the art of a writer how he arrests his mind, how he captivates the heart and soul of a reader. It is the art of the writer how he gains total focus of his/her readers. It is the magic of writer that makes a reader so immersed in his/her writings. It is because of the struggle and hard work of a writer. It is because many feelings are engraved upon his/her writings. It is because he has put his heart and soul in it. The level of a writer is also important. Writer matters a lot. A short piece of writing of a good and professional writer is worth more than that of a beginner. If reading becomes habit of someone, there is a lot of contribution of a writer in it. Behind every good reader, there is always a good writer. These are the books that make us human beings in a true sense. Without books we are only humans physically. These are the books that help us in developing ourselves morally. Books help us in finding the true meaning of human being. The biggest favor of books is that they did not let us forget our history. It is due to books that we have been able to save our culture, our values and our history. It is due to books that we are still able to recall and remind our teachings, lessons and values. It is due to books that we have been able to transfer our history to our new generations. If our thoughts, stories, and our history are not jotted down on a piece of paper, they become dead or extinct. Books build nations. Ray Bradbury depicts role of books by saying these words. He says, “You don't have to burn books to destroy a culture. Just get people to stop reading them.” Books contain everything we need. They always support us. They always welcome us in every situation. No matter what happens, books are always there for us. There is no place better than books. Indeed, Books are the best place to live in.
