Hi, authors...I have a question for you and it's a fun one. I think. When creating your book characters (regardless of genre) you can visualize them so clearly, that you imagine as if they're real, right? If not, that's okay. No worries. But for me...I have an active/creative imagination when it comes to writing my books, so I've put in a lot of thinking about actors of whom could/would portray my characters; actors that help me visualize them all. Even down to the smallest detail and some actors that I've chosen are 100% without a doubt-handsdown the character so when you see my weekly ๐๐๐ญ๐จ๐ซ๐ฌ/๐๐จ๐จ๐ค ๐๐ก๐๐ซ๐๐๐ญ๐๐ซ๐ฌ posts, you're seeing my characters physically brought to life. .. *Take a sigh* .. So allow me to introduce character number one: ๐๐ซ๐๐ค๐ฎ๐ฎ๐ฅ ๐๐๐ฑ๐ฎ๐ฌ. He's an ambitious man of half Japanese heritage (although extremely power hungry) practicing the dark arts and necromancy, with an endless search for more power and the Book of Solomon. You'd think taking over the Great City and declaring himself Lord of London (aka Great City) would be enough, but for Drakuul...he wants more; no matter the cost. His search for the Book of Solomon leads him to the Isle of Castillion where his greed for power and control brings to his end at the hands of Jinn and his magical blade. .. A few weeks ago, I made the difficult decision to keep a secret. Now, several of my friends won't speak to me. Keeping secrets is something I always thought was a part of good character - something that people would find worthy to respect. While my friends now ignore me, I still feel that I made the right decision. A few of us stopped at a local bar for happy hour. Not long after sitting at a table I noticed a familiar face at the bar. So did my other three friends. โIsn't that Mike?โ Linda asked in a horrified tone of voice. โSure looks likes him,โ Margie answered. โWhat do we do?โ Terri queried. โNothing,โ I replied trying to sound blasรฉ. Mike was the fiancรฉ of Rena, another of our friends but he wasn't with Rena. He was sitting at the bar, openly flirting with another woman. Although we tried to enjoy the rest of the hour, seeing Rena's fiancรฉ with another woman dampened our mood and before our pitcher of beer was finished, we began saying our goodbyes for the night. โRemember to call Rena,โ Margie urged. โYou have to tell her,โ Linda persisted. โI'll go with you if you plan to visit her,โ Terri offered. I stood determined not to do anything to hurt our friend. โWhy me? And why are you all so insistent that we hurt Rena and rip apart the relationship she has with Mike? Before we do anything, we should find out how much she knows.โ Margie said that since I knew Rena longer, it was not just my job but my obligation to tell her. โYou're right,โ I said quietly. โI have known her longer and we are closer. It's for that reason, I won't say anything.โ Linda gave me a look of disgust and waved her hand in dismissal. As she walked away, I heard her say in what I deemed contempt, โSo much for friendships. Glad to know we can all rely on you to watch our backs.โ As I stood there in dismay, Terry and Margie said their quick goodbyes and walked to their cars. Here it is, three weeks later and my so-called friends haven't said a word to me. At least not yet! They will call, however, and I'm sure it will be in the next day or two. You see, I didn't have to say anything to Rena about her fiancรฉ. She suspected him of seeing other women for a long time and without telling anyone, was at the same bar that same night and saw him. She visited me three days later and between coffee, wine and a lot of soothing ice cream, poured her heart out. She didn't want her friends involved since this was between her and Mike. Rena felt the more people that knew, the more embarrassing the situation would be. Being a strong woman, she wanted to handle matters in her own way and appreciated me taking a step back. She said it was only a matter of time, anyway, until Mike slipped up. After all, you can't cheat forever and not get caught. That's why she kept putting off arranging a wedding date. Smart girl! I thought as she hugged me before falling asleep on my couch. As I pulled a coverlet over my friend, I realized that no secret is safe. Eventually, the one who starts it, will break it - whether by word or action. Another thing I realized is that there is no need to go running to your best friend with every small detail that might cause hurt. It's more important to be around to pick up the pieces and lend a strong yet comforting shoulder. I also realized that my integrity was still intact and to me, that's something to be proud of. I smile as I think back. A few weeks ago, I made the difficult decision to keep a secret. Now, several friends ignore me like the plague. They still refuse to speak to me. However, once Rena makes known her own discovery, my so-called friends will call again. It's now up to me to deice if I should answer their calls. Friendships work both ways. You can't be a friend only when it's convenient to you and when it's on your terms. A true friend will be there for you, in thick and thin and stand with you rather than turn against you when times get rough. Rena and I are still close and each week to out to dinner to celebrate her new-found freedom. I celebrate my friend and the fact that I took a stand that didn't hurt anyone. There are times when honesty can be hurtful. We must always think twice before we speak. I am ever grateful that I did.
As I motioned to my class to gather around me in our room at the El Camino YMCA, fifteen tiny dancers in fluffy pink tutus huddled into a tight circle. โOkay, girls,โ I said happily. โI have a secret to tell you!โ Gluing their little four- and five-year-old shoulders side by side, faces brightly smiling, they waited in anticipation for my top-secret announcement. Usually my proclamations come with a sucker or some other treat for a job well done. But today's surprise, in my opinion, was extra special. โWhat's the secret?โ I heard in unison, their precious faces close to mine. But just as I was about to unveil my news, one little munchkin by the name of Bebe, with her all-knowing eyes, jumped up and down and shouted, โI know what it is!โ โYou do?โ I giggled. I was sure she had no clue, for secrets are always my forte. โYep!โ she beamed, her nose now against mine. โThe secret is you love us!โ For a moment, the room stood still, and my heart began to swell. The innocence of her insight was not only precious, but she was spot on with what I was about to say. โYou're right!โ I shouted, patting her cheek. โThat's the secret! I love all of you! And don't you ever forget it.โ As the joy only children find in the simplest of moments grew, they gathered even closer for a group hug before running off to their mommies waiting to take them home. And I was left with a precious memory to warm my soul. Long ago, I read the book The Secret, which is based on the idea that abundance arrives from the law of attractionโwhat we think, we attract. Our minds are magnets for all that is good and all that's bad. Looking for ways to appreciate the gifts that come with each day, I've read everything on this subject to keep me on the path to my life's riches. But in that moment of pure childish innocence, I realized I just discovered the foundation for the true law of attraction. While it's nice to think we can control the outcome of our lives with just our minds, the reality is our poor little brains get sidetracked with fear, expectation, and disappointment. Staying positive is a beautiful concept, but it can also be exhausting when the return appears to take forever. There will always be pain, sorrow, and dark days. It's just how life goes. When we fall down that rabbit hole of woe-is-me, remaining optimistic feels like a losing battle, and negativity creeps back in discoloring everything, even the possible good. Gathering angel Bebe into my arms to congratulate her on knowing my secret, I saw that the abundance in my life might not come from my brain working overtime to stay positive, but from the life source beating withinโmy heart. When I become brave enough to give my love openly, without expectations, the return is always overwhelming because I've allowed myself to communicate on the most intimate of levels. Just after releasing the babies to their families, another whimsical cherub named Nora ran back with her four-year-old enthusiasm and whispered, โCan I tell Mommy the secret?โ Cupping her sweet face into my hands, I kissed her cheek and answered, โYes, you can tell anyone you want. In fact, you can tell the world.โ For love, in my opinion, is the key to true happiness, fulfillment, and ultimately abundance. When you love openly, your life can't help but flow positively, and that should never be kept a secret.
