Rachel Bass

Writer, Poet & Author

Milwaukee, United States

I'm Rachel, author of the poetry collection Chasing Grace which is available on Amazon.

I am a basically a bundle of passion and punch, essentially, a firework - except, I don't like fireworks, so maybe I'm more like a gunshot or thunderclap. I'm usually the loudest and most excited person in the room.

And, if you have a conversation with me about something I'm passionate about - say, writing, veganism, anatomy or gendered socialization - you'll practically see the lightning strike slip pass my lips.

But, to the surprise of many, my social and outgoing tendencies are just skills I've learned; in reality, I am rather introverted, in the sense that my "recharging" comes from internal and isolated sources.

And it is these internal and isolated sources that ignite my writing like a fire.

I've been roaming this planet for twenty equally terrifying and terrific years, and writing has been a part of at least twelve of them. Whether I was documenting my daily thoughts and emotions in diaries or crafting characters and stories on yellowed legal pads, the pull towards writing has always been strong.

Essentially, my relationship with writing is enjoyable and integral to my identity.

Aside from writing or reading, I spend a lot of my time doing some combination of the following activities:

-Watching documentaries or movies that are suspenseful, psychological or heinously melancholic

(Saw and smiles anyone?)

-Eating vegetables

(I could eat only carrots, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower and potatoes for the rest of my days)

-Craving or drinking coffee

(oat milk lattes are my new obsession)

-Feeding my sweet tooth

(chocolate, marshmallows, peanut butter, caramel, coffee ice cream...I WANT IT ALL)

-Sleeping

(I am never sure if I have slept too much or too little)

My plans for the future are satisfyingly simple: keep writing, nourish my body and mentality, interact with thought-provoking artistry, enlighten my experiences with travelling and never, ever, cease chasing grace.
