She wore her dazzling skin unapologetically. There was no talking her out of it. Three times, her mother had tried. Twice as much, Kabir had persuaded her to undergo surgery or seek basic medical help for cosmetic cover-up of the patches that have etched themselves irreparably against the more dominant colour of her skin that is black. ''Can't you just intentionally change your diet to include root vegetables and some fruits?'', he had emphasized the last day their arguments ensued for the umpteenth time. There are plenty people who love her just the way she is. Kabir seemed not to be one of them. Vitiligo. They called it. A non-contagious skin condition that has no specific clear cause(s), and no cure. Although it can be managed and maintained through adequate self care and spending lots of money, it does not particularly cause any discomfort, irritation, soreness, or dryness in the skin. ''So why bother?'', she thought and decided it was best to wear her skin the way it is. As a matter of fact, the doctor she went to see few months ago because Kabir had compelled her to, had stated that it was up to her to decide to change her diet or even-out her skin tone with specific and prescribed dermatological products. She didn't see the need, not even when her boyfriend of thirty months started shouting and threatening to leave her if she would not do something about her skin real quick. She had barked back at him and broken off their relationship outright. Byebye to opportunistic and insecure people who try to talk one out of loving who they really are and/or how they look.
