Loosing my best friend to covid-19

Quarantine can be defined as a strict isolation imposed to prevent the spread of disease by restricting movement of anyone who has been exposed to the virus. Also the period of quarantine is 14days and the quarantine was due to the out break of the corona virus so as to prevent it from spreading. More so my best friends name is charity, she's tall, slim, dark in complexion and 15years old.Charity is the only child of her parents and so the did everything possible to please her. To add she's my best friend because she's kind, understanding and humble.I met this girl on my first day of highschool whereby I was looking for my class. She called out to me in a loud voice" hey are u confused andi answered "yes" she asked what I problem was and I told her I can't seem to find my class. I told her I was in form one and she smiled and said "I'm in that class too".When we arrived at our class we looked for seats and sat. When it was lunch break I didn't feel like going out because I didn't have money but she told me not to worry. We went to the cantine and got ourselves some food. As the lunch break ended, we hurried to class and had some lessons afterwards school was over for the day.I thanked her for the splendid day we had at school and her parents came to pick her up while I used public transport to get home. When I got home I had to fetch water and clean the dishes before I could eat those were my step mom's rules because her children were little and I was the eldest so I didnt have anyone to help me with the chores. After several rounds of fetching water, I finally finished and I was given a bowl of rice to eat.I had only thirty minutes to do my six assignments which we had for the day. I did all ecept maths which was difficult. The next day at school, we had maths early in the morning and before the teacher could arrive, charity helped me out with my assignment and after the corrections, we both had it correct. And thanks to her we did well for the first term and it was during the second term that the covid-19 began serious in my country leading to the end of the academic year. I and charity went our separate ways and we only saw each other on a Sunday that's when we exchanged numbers to keep in touch. I stayed at home doing all the house chores, taking care of my step- mom's children and receiving several slaps and beatings from her.I was only allowed to go out on Sundays when the whole family had to go to church so I didn't have time to catch up with my friend.I stayed for three months without hearing from my best friend.I even called her line but unfortunately it wasn't going through. I had no choice than to sneak out of the house on one faithful Friday when my step- mom went to the market with her children leaving me behind with the house chores. I immediately went to my best friend's house only for me to see her in a critical state.when she saw me at her window, she told me not to come closer explaining that her parents had travelled before the pandemic could be serious leaving her behind with her uncle promising her that they will send some money but they never did. She has been infected with corona virus for three months now and it was only God keeping her alive. I told her not to worry but she added saying "hurry I'm dying " tears rolled down my cheeks as I left seeing her in a tragedic situation. For one week I tried doing some odd jobs to raise some money when my step- mom was not around and that money was kept in my school bag hoping to help charity with it. Unfortunately for me, my step mom entered my bag and collected the money. I pleaded with her explaining that the money was to be used to treat my friend, but she didn't care. All she could say was that I won't go out till further notice. On a Tuesday morning I finally escaped from her cage just to find out that charity was in the point of death. She told me this "tell my parents I love them" and she died.My hands went numb as they were trembling in fear, I couldn't believe she was gone, tears rolled down my cheeks as it was so devastating. I cried out loudly that it attracted the attention of those around and the state was informed about the matter. While I was still standing there my step- mom took me by surprise with a hot slap and dragged me to the house. while at home, I mourned after my best friend for she was like a sister I never had, she understood me and was always there for me whenever I needed her but this time, I couldn't help her. This hurt me so badly. Two weeks later charity's parents arrived and they were told everything that happened. They mourned their lovely daughter but couldn't have her back. To end this pathetic story,I regret the existence of quarantine and I wish that this pandemic doesn't repeat itself so that we won't loose our loved ones anymore.
